I made the mistakes so you don't have to.

  1. We didn't notice that we had purchased two different moldings from HomeDepot....took far longer than it should for us to realize why pieces weren't matching.

  2. The "correct" piece we chose turned out to be expensive when there were comparable pieces for a fraction of the cost. We thought it was per piece not per foot so pay close attention to pricing.

  3. We didn't remove the plastic mirror holder clips prior to starting. This wasn't a big deal as the liquid nails glue dried very quickly to secure the mirror.

  4. Not owning a Protractor to measure the cuts. Don't worry though because you can DIY one by drawing a perfect square on cardboard then take a ruler and draw a straight line from opposing corners, Wha La!

Items you will need

  1. Molding, Trim, or Wood of your choice https://www.homedepot.com/p/Woodgrain-Millwork-WM-52-9-16-in-x-2-3-4-in-Solid-Pine-Crown-Moulding-10000670/206000707

  2. Measuring Tape

  3. Circular saw if you don't have the materials for the frame precut https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-14-Amp-7-1-4-in-Circular-Saw-with-Laser-CSB135L/205216329

  4. Liquid Nails adhesive https://www.homedepot.com/p/Liquid-Nails-Interior-Projects-10-oz-Tan-Latex-Construction-Adhesive-LN-704/100659439?MERCH=REC-_-searchViewed-_-NA-_-100659439-_-N

  5. Probably wood filler if your cuts arent perfect like mine. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Minwax-Stainable-Wood-Filler/999914235?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-pnt-_-google-_-lia-_-221-_-wallrepair-_-999914235-_-0&placeholder=null&ds_rl=1286981&gclid=CjwKCAjwgOGCBhAlEiwA7FUXku2XfwrG2gglaQVgYc6x-4p3e5Ad5r5XQPy20P_56KWkp_hJSXuItRoCPAUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

  6. Paint and Paint Brushes. We used Behr Smoky White (OBSESSED with this color) on one and HomeDepot matched a Behr sample to use Glidden paint since they were out of Behr sample sizes that day. I used foam paintbrushes. https://www.behr.com/consumer/ColorDetailView/BWC-13

  7. Sander or Sand Paper

  8. Tape

STEPS

1. Remove Mirror clips if present, slightly pull the mirror away from the wall, insert Liquid Nails Glue along and under mirror edges. Put mirror and clips back to allow to dry, remove clips when you begin to install.

2. Measure your mirror and decide where you want the Frame to be placed, we decided to install the frame on the mirror itself so the wood lengths we needed were exactly the mirror's size. Plan and mark your 45-degree cuts.

3. Make your cuts and sand the edges.

4. I laid my pieces on the ground to check measurements and cut fits. I also made marks on the backsides L(Left) R(Right) B(Bottom) T(Top) to make installation easier.

5. Paint your wood including the back so the reflection on the mirror is your chosen paint. I just lightly covered my markings so they were visible when I went to install the frame to the mirror.

6. Start with the bottom piece, aligning it with the edge of the mirror - or whatever point you decided from the beginning when measuring. Put a light line of Liquid Glue along the edge of the board - do this on the outer edge that way glue won't be visible on the mirror reflection. Press firmly on all parts of the board and carefully tape the board to secure it while it dries. We used basic packing tape because it's all we had, it luckily didn't remove any paint but it's not a big deal to touch up if needed. Let dry for at least a few hours or until there is no movement on the board when touching. We left this overnight because it was a humid day but with the second mirror, 2 hours was enough drying time.

7. Repeat these steps with Left, Right, and Top pieces.

8. Once all pieces are completely dry and tape is carefully removed using either wood filler, liquid nails, or caulk to fill in any gaps. Lightly sand if needed.

9. Clean up the corners with a wet rag, once it's dry touch up paint. Then clean off the mirror with a razor if any product accidentally got on it during install
